Comtech and Harmonic Advance Intelligent Monitoring for Next-Generation HFC and DAA Networks
Győr, Hungary, May 18th, 2026 — Comtech and Harmonic today announced an expanded collaboration to bring deeper network intelligence and operational visibility to next-generation HFC and Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) deployments. Comtech’s intelligent amplifier monitoring capabilities are integrated with Harmonic’s market-leading cOS™ virtualized broadband platform, creating a unified solution that helps broadband operators to enhance service reliability, accelerate troubleshooting, and simplify network operations.
Comtech has a long history of developing active network solutions for HFC infrastructure and is continuously expanding its portfolio with new devices designed for fiber-deep and DAA-based architectures. Working together with leading global technology companies, Comtech has focused on delivering practical, future-ready solutions for network evolution. Harmonic has been Comtech’s longest-standing collaboration partner in this field.
A key focus of the joint solution is intelligent network monitoring at the amplifier level through Comtech’s transponder technology and return-path switch (RSW) functionality. Integrated into Harmonic’s Amply software on the cOS platform, these capabilities allow operators to gain continuous insight into network conditions, identify and localize noise ingress faster, and isolate affected subsegments more precisely. This reduces the service impact of upstream impairments and enables faster, more efficient fault resolution.
The solution is especially well suited for R-PHY and DAA environments, where operators are seeking to deliver higher service levels, improve operational responsiveness, and build a scalable path toward future broadband architectures. By integrating Comtech devices directly into Harmonic’s cOS Amply software, operators can manage critical monitoring and control functions through a unified operational framework, reducing complexity while strengthening network resilience and visibility.
Melita Ltd. has been digitizing its access network and pushing fiber deeper using Harmonic’s Remote PHY solution. In collaboration with Harmonic and Comtech, Melita will trial the Amply solution to further enhance the resilience of its HFC network, targeting availability beyond 99.99%. By correlating data from CMTSs, customer modems, and transponders, Melita can manage the network with greater precision, enabling targeted interventions and reducing unnecessary field dispatches. This implementation highlights how the Comtech–Harmonic collaboration can support operators like Melita in improving the quality of service and readiness for next-generation broadband demands.
“It took just one meeting with the teams from both Companies to align on integrating Comtech’s solution with Harmonic Amply. Within a week, Comtech samples were already in Harmonic’s labs to begin interoperability testing. We are confident that once deployed in our network, this solution will deliver immediate benefits. By bringing all network data under a single platform, we also see strong potential to introduce real AI-driven capabilities in Network Operations, supporting engineers in faster and more accurate fault diagnosis,” said Roderick Cassar, Technical Head of Fixed Access Networks at Melita Ltd.
“Our collaboration with Harmonic represents much more than a product integration for a single operator project. It is a strategic step in extending intelligent monitoring and control deeper into modern HFC and DAA networks,” said Varga Lajos, General Manager at Comtech. “At Comtech, we are continuously developing active broadband devices that support the evolution of fiber-deep architectures, and our long-standing cooperation with Harmonic has played an important role in that journey. Together, we can help operators improve visibility, accelerate fault localization and deliver a higher level of service assurance in increasingly demanding network environments.”
“Harmonic is committed to helping operators modernize broadband networks with greater agility, operational simplicity and intelligence,” said Andrii Vladyka, Vice President of Technologies and Growth at Harmonic. “Our collaboration with Comtech expands the capabilities of the cOS Amply software ecosystem by integrating Comtech’s intelligent amplifier monitoring and control into the broader network operations environment. This gives operators a powerful toolset to improve service continuity, streamline troubleshooting and support the transition to next-generation broadband infrastructure.”
